Early years curriculum
Learning through play
Young children learn best by doing, exploring and talking about what they see. Our early years books make that first experience of school joyful and gentle, and build confidence one small step at a time.
See early years booksHow we teach
- Play and activity. Children learn through doing, not only through listening.
- Step-by-step progression. Each class builds gently on the one before.
- Links to daily life. Ideas start from the home, family and world children know.
- Connected learning. Related ideas are taught together, so learning makes sense as a whole.
- Practice that stays. Each Workbook gives children time to try and repeat new skills.
Five areas of growth
Thinking
Noticing, sorting, matching and solving simple problems.
Language
Listening, speaking and early reading and writing.
Physical
Hand control and movement through hands-on tasks.
Social
Sharing, taking turns and working with others.
Emotional
Understanding feelings and growing in confidence.
Class 1 to Class 5
Primary curriculum
Growing curious about the world
As children grow, they become active learners. The child is at the centre, and the teacher guides. Our primary books help children ask questions, explore ideas and connect what they learn to the world around them.
See primary booksHow we teach
- Learning through themes. Topics are built around things children can relate to.
- Connected subjects. Children see how ideas link across different subjects.
- Many ways to learn. Stories, pictures, activities and discussion suit different learners.
- Learning by asking. Questions encourage children to think, not only to remember.
- Steady progress. Concepts deepen from one class to the next, from Class 1 to Class 5.
- Practice that stays. Each Workbook helps children apply and review what they learned.
